Professor Deana Pollard Sacks received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California in 1989 (Order of the Coif) and her Master of Laws degree from U.C. Berkeley in 1999. She is licensed to practice law in California and Washington, practiced law for several years between 1989 and 1999, and has been a full time professor of law since 2000. Currently, Professor Sacks is the Roberson King Professor of Law at Texas Southern University and has offices in Houston, Texas and Malibu, California.
Professor Sacks first studied mediation while a law student at U.C. Berkeley in 1999. She has since taught mediation for several years at Texas Southern University and has certified numerous students as mediators. She believes that successful conflict resolution results from an understanding of the law as well as empathy toward disputing parties, with an emphasis on cognitive and emotional barriers to conflict resolution.
